Paradise Island Park

PARADISE ISLAND

Shoreline

Paradise Island is very proud of its humble beginnings. What started out as a weekend picnic destination back in the seventies, catering mostly to friends and their families has become what it is today as not only the preferred island getaway for families but is also the byword for those growing impulsive groups who are so busy and yet wise enough to squeeze - in leisure in their hectic schedules at the spur of the moment.

Having a shoreline of almost eight hundred meters (800m), it is the only place in this part of Samal Island that has maintained its shores by feeding the fishes, clean them with having periodic “Scubasurero Activities”, and has placed a “safety net” to ward off jelly fish and rubbish, discouraging anglers from poaching the area and encouraging its visitors to enjoy the marine life and leave the same so that others may also enjoy them. Its white sand beach as well as its surroundings are combed and cleaned throughout the day giving a pure and clean ambiance for its visitors and workers alike.

Kids on the shore
The swimming area is adequately manned by lifeguards all day which makes swimming more enjoyable and worry free even for young kids and a few strokes farther leads you to an area perfect for snorkeling or even diving. Surely, a wet experience beyond compare to a man – made swimming pool.

Only seven (7) minutes away and traffic-free from Davao City, Paradise Island is very near and visitors are ferried by a fleet of ten (10) colorful boats efficiently operated by the management of the resort from 5:00 AM up to 5:00 PM. After 5:00 PM, those who wish to go to Samal Island may ride the Ferry Boat (see Travel Map for directions) which serves the public until 11:00 PM.. Guests staying at Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao may arrange a boat trip to Paradise Island and back at the reception. This is the shortest route from Davao City which only takes five (5) minutes.

Car owners need not worry where to park their cars when going to Paradise. Our dock has a wide, fenced and canopied parking area that can accommodate a sizeable number of vehicles and is secured 24/7. If you wish not to part with your cars and plan to bring them to the island, we also have an equally secured place to park your cars inside the resort.

DIVING ZONE

We have made taking care of the Marine Life on our shores a serious business and commitment.Dive Zone Left with a dying coral garden and diminishing fish population due to illegal and dynamite fishing before, the Management became more aggressive and is doing everything to stop all forms of fishing within the resort’s perimeter and applied for said area to be converted into a “Dive Zone” hoping to apply more teeth in safeguarding the shores from anglers who do not care much.

With this strong commitment in mind, we go out of our ways to find solutions in keeping up with a modern approach in taking care of our environment and set the pace among the industry players in Samal Island.

Bataan and Its History

OVERVIEW

No words can describe the uniqueness of the Bataan province. The glory of the region is manifested not only through its physical attributes, but further, through the culture it embraces. A symbol of democracy and freedom, and a memorial to the gallant Filipino-American defenders, Bataan is in the same way, momentous historically. The unsullied shorelines and immaculate beaches in the area that are complemented by scenic springs and waterfalls, also definitely make Bataan one remarkable province in the archipelago.

GEOGRAPHY

Being the smallest at the Southwestern part of Central Luzon, the province of Bataan is a finger-shaped peninsula that is bounded by the province of Zambales on the North, Pampanga on the Northeast, South China Sea on the West, and Manila bay on the East. It has a total land area of 137, 296 hectares which is about 7.5% of Region 3 and .5% of the entire archipelago. Twelve municipalities comprise the province of Bataan, eleven of which are coastal areas lying along Manila Bay and South China Sea. The region is generally a mountainous land mass that is dominated by uplands, hills, and mountains which is in fact 80.9% of the whole area. Lowlands and plains comprise 19.1%  of the area and is in general, the agricultural portion of Bataan. The province also has copious water resources in the form of rivers, streams, creeks, waterfalls, and springs that radiate from the mountains. Talisay and Almacen are the two major rivers in Bataan. The climate in the province is under Type 1 which has the wet and dry season.

HISTORY

Prior to the coming of the Spanish missionaries in 1570, several rural communities were already blossoming in the coastal areas of the province of Bataan. Before known as Vatan, the province used to be a division in the vast Capampangan Empire which also included the provinces which are now Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and some portions of Bulacan, Zambales, and Pangasinan. The populace in these coastal villages were fishermen, craftsmen, and farmers, while the hillsides were resided by nomadic Aeta tribes.
The province was established in 1754 by Governor General Pedro Manuel Arandia out of the two divisions which were the corregimiento of Mariveles and the province of Pampanga. Towns that comprise the province of Pampanga were under the jurisdiction of the Recollect Order of the Roman Catholic church, while those from the former were put under the Dominican Order.
Several historical episodes took place in the province, but it was during the outbreak of World War II that Bataan acquired prominence that gave it its place in the chronicles of world history. From 1610 to 1639, Tomas Pinpin, the prince of Filipino printers which happened to be a native of Abucay, Bataan authored and printed himself some of the oldest books in the Philippines. In 1647, Dutch Naval forces landed in the country to seize the islands from Spain and their plundering was resisted in Bataan. In 1896, Bataan was one of the first provinces in Luzon to have revolted against Spanish rule.
After the ousting of Spanish conquerors and administrators, the command over the archipelago was turned over to the American forces. In May 1, 1898, the island of Corregidor fell into the hands of the Americans and in the following month, Bataan was already taken by the insurrectos. In March 1942, General MacArthur aversely left Bataan with his now famous proclamation “I shall return.” By April 3, the Japanese shelling of Mt. Samat in Bataan was turned into a hill of charred coals. In April 6, the bloody battle begun at Mt. Samat, and in April 9, 1942, the defenders of Bataan surrendered to the Japanese and the Army of Bataan completely collapsed. The end of the battle came and the lines “Bataan has fallen” were uttered. 76,000 prisoners of war were then forced by the Japanese troops to walk a 65 miles of perfidious terrain from Mariveles, Bataan to the Camp O’Donnell to the north. The Bataan Death March is known as one of the greatest inhumanities of WWII and also as one of the greatest displays of heroism and human will power on the part of its survivors.
The things and events that Bataan witnessed during these times will forever be etched into its history. “The little mountainous peninsula of Bataan saved democracy and the whole world from the evil hands of the devil.” –From a radio broadcast of US President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jan. 5, 1945.

Puerto Princesa
Puerto Princesa City, a tropical paradise with a bustling urban center perfect for business with leisure trips. Lush rainforests and white sand beaches are simply hours away from the city proper, where a banking and commercial boom has made life easier for workaholics who can never run away from the office.

Puerto Princesa Philippines is a relatively young settlement. It was established as a city only in 1970. The first settlers arrived here almost a century earlier though, on March 4, 1872, celebrated every year hence as the foundation day of Puerto Princesa.

Puerto Princesa Philippines sprawls across 253,982 hectares of land stretched over 106 kilometers, making it the country’s largest city. Its narrowest breath is in Bahile, where only 8.5 kilometers of land separate the east and the west coast.

Puerto Princesa Philippines has 66 barangays, majority of which are rural settlements scattered in underdeveloped land. Inhabitants number about 150,000, most of them engaged in agriculture and fishing. A third of the population resides in the city proper, an urbanized settlement on the shores of Puerto Princesa Bay. With its huge trees and fresh air, the city has managed to retain its frontier ambience despite the onset of modern trends and structures.

Puerto Princesa Philippines climate consists of pronounced wet and dry seasons equally divided throughout the year. The wettest month is September while the driest month is February. From October to April, the northeast monsoon whips up waves on the coast facing the South China Sea. The southwest monsoon blows from April to August.

The best time to visit Puerto Princesa would be the summer months from April to June or during holidays, when seas are usually calm. Humidity is high but annual average temperatures are comfortable at 27 degrees celsius. Nights may be chilly during rainy days, especially in forested areas, so it is advisable for visitors to bring warm clothing at all times.
